For two gloriously sunny days in March, the Castle Quay area fulfilled its claim to be the cultural quarter of Bedford.
We Are Bedford – a veritable army of volunteers, crafters, musicians, photographers, poets, artists and makers – united to transform seven empty shops and the surrounding streets and parkland into a focal point of cultural loveliness.
If the build-up to the event was exhausting, the actual Weekender was overwhelming! Everything – from the fabulous weather to the hoards of people – far exceeded any expectations Kayte and I had when we first conceived of the idea last November.
The Castle Quay Weekender sums up the concept of turning spaces into places. And places where people want to hang out, spend time – and spend money.
The event not only brought together our community, it also demonstrated that there is a want and a need for cultural events in Bedford.
Feedback from the event has been unanimously positive and We Are Bedford hopes to build on this success with future events. We are passionate about our town, and it seems that at least 5,000 other people are too…
